 When reading a Scripture passage consider the following:

The • ology: the study of God

  • Know God    Seek       
      God’s nature: who/what He reveals about Himself?

  • Know humanity Contrast
       
    Human: personal thoughts, emotions, and motives.

Sample Questions:
○ What aspect of God is displayed or revealed?
What action of God or absence of God is portrayed.

Do • ology: art of living

  • Understand the way  →  Apply
      
    God’s standard: what has He commanded as right/good

  • Discern the truth  →  Compare
      
    World’s philosophy and methods: what does human nature and culture say is right/good

Sample Questions:
What commands or principles are being given?
Do the attitudes, thinking, and actions reflect godly or ungodly ways?
○ What is the application for the “here and now” and for the eternal perspective?

Be • ology: growth by faith

  • Wisdom forms habits  →  Possess
       
    God’s “putting on”: cultivate change through the fruits of the Spirit.

  • Renewing the self  →  Correlate
      
    World’s philosophy and methods must be the “putting off” of the flesh.

Sample Questions:
What lessons are observed?
How does this transform the heart’s response or renew the mind’s process of thought?
○ How does this strengthen the ability to discern what is of God and what is of the world?
